Irrigation Collector
What is it?
Irrigation Collector is an internal, Davey-only, simple water inventory web browser app free to use by all Service Lines. We built it with knowledge gained from externally funded projects and it is supported by the Corporate Mapping team at the Institute. Irrigation Collector is open to all employees with a valid @Davey.com email address.
Irrigation Collector can be used on a phone, tablet, or computer running Android, Apple, or Windows, anywhere you have an internet connection. It requires a modern web browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Edge.
- Users can bypass the Institute to make maps and reports entirely on their own via GIS or Google Earth + a spreadsheet.
- Or they can email Institute Corporate Mapping to obtain deliverables:
- inventory & work planning maps
- spreadsheet feature listing
Why did we build it?
We saw need for the ability to conduct inventories of client irrigation systems to help them better manage their assets and secure more work. It is a “better hammer” versus using a clipboard and a paper map. We hope you will use it to increase efficiency and create new opportunities leading to additional customer engagement. For example, it could be used to sell water inventories during winter months or by staff who might be on light duty because of injury or illness.
What is it designed for?
Irrigation Collector is NOT software that can be sold to a client; it is for internal use only. It is built for small inventories, under 1,000 features. For large projects, there are commercially available irrigation management packages available.
How to get it:
Visit https://tools.daveyinstitute.com/ and scroll mid-way down the list; this is our easy-to-remember web address. Tip: Bookmark this page in your web browser.
How to use it:
There are two main pages for the tool: The Projects view and the Map view.
- Create a new project - set details and turn data collection fields on and off.
- When you are ready, use the Map It! button to begin capturing point and line features.
- Use the GPS on your device to roughly locate your position on the map. However, you do not use it to capture points; just tap the map where the feature is located. (GPS accuracy varies by device & conditions.)
- A data input form appears after tapping the map location. The form is generic to work across the entire company. Tip: The Optional fields 1 through 5 can be used to capture data items not listed.
- Please use Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Edge. Do NOT use Internet Explorer.
- Use the Submit button often to send your data to our server and prevent data loss due to a bad connection.
- Make post-inventory EDITS in Irrigation Collector; editing the spreadsheet download will NOT update the map data on the server.
- Be sure to Submit your work before switching devices – for example: from a phone in the field to an office laptop.
